What this tool does

NAP consistency sounds pedantic until you see what inconsistency does. When directories disagree about your suite number or show an old phone number, search engines have to decide which version to trust, and confidence in all of them drops.

Inconsistency accumulates quietly. A move, a rebrand, a new phone system, an agency that created listings years ago — each leaves a trail of records nobody updated.

How to use it

1

Enter your business name, address and phone exactly as they appear on your Google profile.

2

Review the listings found and where they disagree.

3

Correct the highest-authority directories first — they carry the most weight.

4

Standardise on one format and use it everywhere from then on.

Worth knowing

Pick one canonical format and never deviate. “Suite 4” and “Ste 4” and “#4” are three different addresses as far as a matching algorithm is concerned. Consistency matters more than which format you choose.

Questions

Does a single wrong listing hurt me?

One stale directory entry is not a crisis. A pattern of disagreement across many listings is what erodes trust in your location data.

Which listings matter most?

Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places and the major data aggregators. Fixing those corrects many smaller directories downstream.

How long until corrections take effect?

Days for the big platforms, weeks to months for smaller directories that refresh from aggregators on their own schedule.
