Local Business Schema
Publish valid LocalBusiness markup for every location, matching the profile exactly.
Local business schema publishes validated LocalBusiness JSON-LD per location, generated from live profile data so the markup and the Google profile cannot contradict each other.
What it does
Structured data does not raise rankings by itself, and anyone selling it as a ranking tactic is overstating what it does. What it does is remove ambiguity — it states your name, address, hours, phone and services in a format search engines parse without having to infer anything from page layout.
That inference is where errors enter. A crawler reading a page has to work out which of several phone numbers is the business one, whether the hours listed are current or seasonal, and which address belongs to which branch. Schema answers those questions explicitly rather than leaving them to be guessed.
The common failure is markup that disagrees with the Google Business Profile. A page claiming one set of hours while the profile shows another is worse than no markup at all, because it introduces exactly the doubt the schema was supposed to remove — and it happens routinely when markup is hand-written once and never revisited.
Generating markup from live profile data removes that possibility. The two cannot contradict because they come from the same source, and when the profile changes the markup follows. It is a small technical detail that quietly prevents a whole category of trust problems.
Everything Local Business Schema gives you
Generated from profile data
Markup built from your live Business Profile, so page and profile cannot contradict each other.
Validation before publishing
Markup checked against schema requirements so invalid output never reaches a live page.
Per-location generation
Distinct markup for every branch, which is what multi-location businesses actually need.
Automatic sync
Profile changes flow into the markup rather than leaving it to drift after the next hours change.
Full property coverage
Name, address, geo, hours, phone, services, price range and URLs rather than a minimal subset.
Special hours support
Holiday and exception hours included, which are the ones most often wrong in hand-written markup.
Copy-ready output
JSON-LD ready to paste, or deployed automatically where pages are generated by the platform.
Error reporting
Flags where profile data is incomplete in ways that weaken the markup.
Works with any site
Output is standard JSON-LD, usable on any platform.
From setup to first result
- 1
Complete the profile first
Markup is generated from it, so gaps in the profile become gaps in the markup.
- 2
Generate per location
Each branch gets its own markup rather than one shared block across the estate.
- 3
Validate
Confirm the output is valid before publishing. Invalid markup is ignored entirely rather than partially.
- 4
Check it matches the page
Google requires marked-up information to be visible on the page, not only in the markup.
- 5
Publish to the right page
Location markup belongs on that location’s page, not on the homepage for every branch.
- 6
Keep it synced
Let profile changes flow through rather than treating markup as a one-off task.
- 7
Re-validate after changes
Particularly after adding special hours or changing services.

Ambiguity is what schema removes
Crawlers infer from layout without it, and inference is where errors originate.
Mismatches are worse than absence
Markup contradicting the profile introduces the doubt it was meant to eliminate.
Hand-written markup drifts
It is written once and forgotten, then diverges at the next hours or phone change.
Multi-location needs per-branch markup
One shared block across an estate tells search engines almost nothing useful about individual branches.
Invalid markup is ignored entirely
A single syntax error means the whole block is discarded, silently.
Marked-up data must be visible
Google requires the information to appear on the page, and markup-only data can be treated as misleading.
What it measures
- Locations with valid markup
- Property completeness per location
- Markup and profile consistency
- Validation errors outstanding
- Pages carrying location markup
- Time since last sync

Who uses Local Business Schema
Ship location pages, schema and locators for clients without a development queue.
Give every location a page that can rank and a route from the homepage to it.
Roll out consistent local pages across the network at once.
Turn profile visibility into enquiries on your own site.
Get more out of it
- Complete the profile before generating, since the markup can only be as complete as its source.
- Put location markup on that location’s page, not the homepage. One page marked up as every branch is meaningless.
- Ensure marked-up information also appears visibly on the page — Google requires it and treats absence as misleading.
- Include special hours. They are the field most frequently wrong in hand-written markup.
- Re-validate after any profile change rather than assuming the sync succeeded.
- Never hand-edit generated markup, or it drifts from the profile again and you are back where you started.
Markup that contradicts the profile
It introduces exactly the doubt schema exists to remove, and it is worse than publishing no markup at all.
Marking up information not shown on the page
Google requires marked-up data to be visible, and hidden markup can be treated as misleading rather than merely ignored.
One shared block for every location
It tells search engines nothing useful about individual branches and wastes the main benefit for multi-location businesses.
Hand-writing markup once
It is accurate on the day it is written and drifts at the next hours change, which nobody notices.
Assuming schema improves rankings directly
It does not. It improves interpretation, which supports everything else — overselling it leads to disappointment.

Local Business Schema questions
Will schema improve my rankings?
Not directly. It improves how reliably search engines interpret your details, which supports everything else you do.
What if my schema and profile disagree?
Fix it immediately. A mismatch actively undermines confidence in your location data and is worse than no markup.
Is it validated before publishing?
Yes, so invalid markup never reaches a live page. A single syntax error causes the whole block to be ignored.
Does each location need its own markup?
Yes. One shared block across an estate tells search engines almost nothing useful about individual branches.
Does the marked-up data need to appear on the page?
Yes. Google requires it, and markup-only information can be treated as misleading rather than simply ignored.
Does it include special hours?
Yes, and they matter — holiday and exception hours are the field most frequently wrong in hand-written markup.
Can I use it on any website platform?
Yes. The output is standard JSON-LD, which works anywhere you can add a script block.
What happens when my profile changes?
The markup syncs, which is the main reason to generate rather than hand-write it.
Which properties are included?
Name, address, geo coordinates, hours, phone, services, price range and URLs rather than a minimal subset.
Can I hand-edit the output?
You can, but it reintroduces drift. Editing the profile and regenerating is the safer path.
Does it work for service-area businesses?
Yes, with the area served described rather than a public address implied.
How do I know it is working?
Validation confirms syntax. Search Console reporting confirms Google is reading it on your live pages.
Is JSON-LD better than microdata?
Google prefers JSON-LD, and it is easier to maintain because it sits separately from the page markup.
Where should the markup go?
On the page it describes. Location markup belongs on that location’s page, not the homepage.
What if a property is missing?
The error report flags it. Missing properties weaken the markup without invalidating it, unlike syntax errors.
Can I mark up services individually?
Yes, and doing so adds matching surface for service-specific searches.
Does this replace the Google profile?
No. They are complementary — the profile is the primary local entity and the markup corroborates it from your own site.
How often should I re-validate?
After any profile change, and quarterly as a routine check.
Will it produce rich results?
LocalBusiness markup supports interpretation rather than a specific rich result. Review and FAQ markup drive visible enhancements.
What is the biggest mistake?
Publishing markup that contradicts the profile, usually because it was written once and never revisited.
