Whitespark Review

An independent look at Whitespark: what it does, what it costs, what users actually rate it, and how it compares with Local SEO Tool.

Pricing and ratings checked August 2026. Ratings move, so treat them as a snapshot. Where a score could not be confirmed we say so rather than estimate.

Quick verdict

Best in class at citations. Sold as separate products.

The citation specialists, and the expertise behind the products is real. The friction is shape rather than quality. It is several separate products with separate prices, so every extra job you want handled is another subscription and another login, and nothing puts rank, reviews and profile health on one screen.

What is Whitespark?

Whitespark is a local SEO company that sells several focused products alongside done for you services. They are best known for citation building and their local citation finder.

The people behind it are well known in local SEO and the research they publish is widely read, which is part of why the products are trusted.

What you are buying is depth in specific jobs rather than one platform covering everything.

Our rating: 4.2 out of 5

Genuinely strong citation research and unusually cheap rank tracking at $25 with unlimited locations. Sold as several products rather than one platform.

This is our own assessment, not an average of user reviews. It is scored on verified third party ratings, pricing transparency, whether there is a location minimum, how much of the job one purchase covers, and what the entry price buys. The user ratings we could confirm are listed further down, with sources.

Whitespark features

Every feature below, and what it actually does rather than what the marketing calls it.

Local Citation Finder

This is the tool Whitespark is known for, and it still does the job better than most. You give it a keyword and a location, and it reports the directories and sites where the businesses ranking for that term are listed. The output is a list of places you are missing rather than a generic directory checklist.

The difference matters. Most citation tools hand you the same two hundred sites regardless of who you are. This one works backwards from who is actually winning in your market, so a plumber in Leeds and a dentist in Leeds get different lists. That is a more useful starting point, because the sites that matter genuinely vary by trade.

What it does not do is fix anything. It finds the gap and leaves the submissions to you, which is why the citation building service exists as a separate paid product.

Best for: Working out which directories are worth your time in a specific trade and city

Citation building service

This is people, not software. You submit your business details and Whitespark staff build the listings by hand. It is priced per campaign rather than as a subscription, and it is the part of the business that has been running longest.

Manual submission is slower than automated distribution but it handles the awkward cases that break automated tools, such as directories that require a phone verification or a category that does not map cleanly. If your listings are a mess after a move or a rebrand, this is usually the faster route back.

The trade off is that it is a one time fix rather than a monitored state. Nothing tells you six months later that a listing has drifted.

Best for: Cleaning up after a move, a rename or years of inconsistent submissions

Local rank tracker

A geo grid rank tracker starting at twenty five dollars a month, with unlimited domains and locations on the plan. That pricing shape is unusual in this category, where most tools charge per location, and it is the single strongest reason an agency looks at Whitespark.

It samples your map position from points across an area and plots the result, which is the same basic method as the other grid tools. What you are buying at this price is the volume, not a different measurement.

It is a tracker rather than a platform. It will tell you where you stand and it will not help you act on it, so it usually sits alongside something else rather than replacing it.

Best for: Agencies tracking many clients who want one predictable line item

Reputation Builder

A review request tool starting at seventy nine dollars a month. It sends requests, follows up, and reports what came back. It covers the mechanics competently without trying to be a full reputation platform.

The useful part is that it is separable. If reviews are your only gap you can buy this without buying a suite, which is rarely possible with the larger platforms where review handling sits behind a top tier.

Best for: A business whose only real gap is that nobody asks for reviews

Google Business Profile management service

A managed service at four hundred and ninety seven dollars a month, where Whitespark staff run the profile for you. There is also a Yext replacement service at three hundred and forty nine dollars per location.

This is not software you log into. It is worth understanding because it changes what Whitespark is: partly a tool vendor and partly an agency. For some buyers that is exactly right. For anyone comparing monthly software costs it makes the comparison harder than it looks.

Best for: Businesses that would rather hand the work over than run it

Whitespark pros and cons

Pros
  • Genuinely excellent at citations, which is what they are known for.
  • The rank tracker is inexpensive and covers unlimited domains and locations.
  • Real local SEO expertise behind the products, and published research to back it.
  • You can buy only the piece you need rather than a bundle.
Cons
  • Several separate subscriptions rather than one platform, so costs and logins accumulate.
  • No single place where rank, reviews and profile health sit together.
  • The managed Google Business Profile service at about $497 a month is a different kind of purchase entirely.
  • Fewer third party reviews than the larger platforms, so less external signal to check against.

The review count is small compared with the big platforms, so read it as a signal about company size rather than about quality. What reviewers consistently say is that the citation work is thorough and the people know the subject.

How Whitespark works

  1. Pick the product for your problem

This is the model. You buy the specific tool rather than a platform.

  2. Run the citation finder

Find where you should be listed in your industry and area.

  3. Build or fix citations

Do it yourself, or buy the service if the volume justifies it.

  4. Add rank tracking separately

A different subscription, and good value at the price.

  5. Add reputation separately

Another subscription again if reviews matter to you.

Top alternatives to Whitespark

The three tools people most often weigh against Whitespark, what each does better, and where each is weaker. There is a fuller list in our Whitespark alternatives comparison.

BrightLocal vs Whitespark

The closest like for like on tooling, and the more conventional buy. BrightLocal packages audit, rank tracking, citations and reviews into tiered plans starting at $39 per location per month, where Whitespark sells each piece separately.

Where BrightLocal is stronger

  • One platform rather than several products to assemble
  • Better client reporting out of the box
  • A larger, more established support and knowledge base

Where Whitespark is stronger

  • Rank tracking is far cheaper at scale, with unlimited locations from $25
  • Citation research is genuinely better and more local
  • You can buy one piece without buying a suite

More detail in our BrightLocal review and BrightLocal alternatives.

Moz Local vs Whitespark

A listings and citations tool at $20 to $40 per location per month. It overlaps with the citation half of Whitespark and does none of the rank tracking.

Where Moz Local is stronger

  • Automated distribution keeps listings current rather than fixing them once
  • Cheaper for pure listings management at a small number of locations
  • Duplicate detection is built in and continuous

Where Whitespark is stronger

  • No rank tracking at all, which is half of what Whitespark is for
  • Citation discovery is a generic list rather than market specific
  • Per location pricing gets expensive across an estate

More detail in our Moz Local review and Moz Local alternatives.

Local Falcon vs Whitespark

A geo grid rank tracker and nothing else. The comparison is narrow but direct, because rank tracking is where the two overlap.

Where Local Falcon is stronger

  • Deeper grid options and a more refined map interface
  • Scan credits suit occasional heavy use better than a flat plan

Where Whitespark is stronger

  • Flat pricing with unlimited locations is more predictable than credits
  • Citations, reviews and managed services exist alongside the tracker
  • Cheaper for an agency running many clients continuously

Local SEO Tool overview

We built Local SEO Tool because the same pattern kept repeating across this category. Features split across tiers, a location minimum that rules out smaller businesses, or a year long contract for software you wanted to try for a fortnight.

So it is one plan with all 42 tools on it, priced per location rather than per person, starting at one location, with a three day free trial and no contract. That is the whole commercial model, and it is on the pricing page rather than behind a call.

Local SEO Tool features

Six groups, 42 tools, all on the one plan.

  1. Rank and visibility

Grid rank tracking across your area, service area tracking, local keyword research, competitor tracking and AI visibility checks.

  2. Profile management

Every location in one place, bulk edits, profile scoring, smart tasks, brand consistency checks and edit alerts.

  3. Posts and automation

Scheduled Google posts, a media queue, a dripfeed that does not run dry, social scheduling and Zapier alerts.

  4. Reviews and reputation

One inbox across every location, drafted replies, review requests with follow up, low rating alerts and a review widget.

  5. Reports and white label

Client ready reports on a schedule with your logo, portfolio and multi location views, and full grid exports.

  6. Grow and convert

A site builder, store locator, a real page per location, business schema, review QR codes, citations and analytics.

The full list is on the tools page.

Where we are not the answer
  • Newer than the names below, so there is less third party review history to read.
  • Not an enterprise procurement product. If you need a named account manager and a signed MSA, the enterprise vendors are built for that and we are not.

How to choose between them

  1. Check which plan holds the feature you want

Not the website. Open the pricing page and find the tier the feature actually sits on. In this category it is often not the entry one.

  2. Check the minimum and the notice period

A location minimum decides whether you can buy at all. A notice period decides how long a wrong decision lasts.

  3. Insist on trying it

A trial answers the only question that matters, which is whether your team still opens it in month three. A demo does not.

  4. Price it at double your size

Per location pricing compounds and credit models scale with use. Work out the figure at twice your current locations before signing.

Final verdict

The citation specialists, and the expertise behind the products is real. The friction is shape rather than quality. It is several separate products with separate prices, so every extra job you want handled is another subscription and another login, and nothing puts rank, reviews and profile health on one screen.

If what you want is people who want one specific job done well and are happy to buy it on its own. then Whitespark is a reasonable buy and you should go and try it.

If you would rather have the whole local SEO job on one plan, at one price, with no tiers and no contract, that is what we built. See the pricing, or look at all 42 tools first.
