What this tool does
Map pack position is not one number. It changes with the searcher’s physical location, sometimes within a few hundred metres. A business can be first outside its own door and invisible across town.

Never measure from your own address only. It flatters you — proximity is a ranking factor, so you will almost always look strongest standing in your own shop. Check from where your customers actually are.

Why does my rank differ from what I see?
Your own searches are personalised and use your exact GPS position. A clean check from a defined point is the more honest measure.
What moves map pack position?
Proximity, relevance and prominence. You cannot change proximity, which is why categories, reviews and completeness carry so much weight.
How often should I check?
Monthly per location. Daily checking produces noise that tempts you into changes you cannot attribute.
